A walk down a lovely country lane beside a rambling stone wall brings one to the distant meadows and eventually, grants a wonderful view of rolling blue mountains far in the distance. This a fine and a grand work, where one can “feel” the texture of the old pines on the right and smell the evergreens as they begin to cast their shadows in the mid-afternoon sun. There is a great deal of texture in this work, in the defining of the grasses in the foreground and in the fields, with little impasto. A nice sheen glows softly from this work, due to the varnished paint upon canvas.
